Yuhan Wang Show Runway Spring Summer 2023
People always say uniforms have a particular sexual attraction, and Yuan Wang seeks to prove the point.
With herYuhan Wang Show Runway Spring Summer 2023 collection, the London-based designer referenced classic flyer uniforms, showing jodhpur trousers and martial jackets in her signature flowery devore fabric. She also created retro floral flyer hats with silk organza and leather.
She was initially inspired by flying queens commonly seen on the wall artwork at China’s Longmen Grottoes, but as her investigation continued she turned her direction to three female pioneering aviators: Lee Ya-Ching, the foremost Chinese woman to be given a civil aviation license; Hazel Ying Lee, an American pilot who helped during World War II, and Amelia Earhart, who was the first female pilot to take a fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean.
They are mostly described as female vibrance, Wang said. But in actual life, we lose view of the sparks of female aviators who displayed extraordinary talent and boldness. I want to make a collection to honor women’s freedom, continuance, bravery, and stylishness under stress.
And so she did. The collection concentrated on the human side of female pilots who, while adventurers, also appreciate looking gorgeous and feeling comfortable with showing their skins. There were plenty of Victorian-esque hot bra tops, skirts, and ruched clothes in sheer flowery fabrics, with a hint of military relations.
Another beauty on the runway was a cute plane bag. It was a homage to Earhart’s model Lockheed Vega 5B.
Sadly, Misty, the cat was otherwise committed to Yuhan Wang’s spring 2023 show, but the creator certainly delivered on pet favorites.
